You can say that again! The 49ers proved that they are what their record says they are. Jim Harbaugh has taken this team of mostly unknown players and made them stars. The turnaround is very impressive given the fact that the Philadelphia Eagles were a bunch of stars who came together and have pretty much ended their season after the home loss to Arizona on Sunday that has them reeling with a 3-6 record.
I have also been right twice in a row as I predicted that they would defeat the New York Giants. They have also gotten their seventh straight victory which is the longest winning streak in San Francisco since 1997. I also predicted that receivers Mario Manningham and Hakeem Nicks would be a threat and they definitely came up big. Nicks who missed last week’s game due to a hamstring injury made an incredible touchdown grab with 8 minutes to go in the game but the 49ers were still able to prevail.
Alex Smith made some great passes too including a toss to Tight End Vernon Davis that resulted in a touch down at the start of the fourth quarter and put the Niners up 20-13 after they went for two and got it. The Niners had lost their starting running back Frank Gore but the backup Kendall Hunter was able to score a touchdown and put them up by 14 points.
It was still a close game, though, with Eli Manning connecting with Manningham on fourth down with about 3 minutes to go. This drive was definitely thrilling and plenty of 49er fans would have had their hearts in their mouths when a long pass by Manning just slipped past the fingers of Mario Manningham. On that same drive, Manning connect with Victor Kruz on fourth down to keep the game alive for the Giants. There was another fourth down on this drive in the red zone with less than a minute to go and the 49ers defensive end/defensive tackle Justin Smith managed to bat down the attempted pass by Manning and the Niners picked up the victory.
