Lincecum cannot be stopped.

Tim Lincecum is a beast. This guy struck out 15 last night as the Giants humbled the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-2 at AT & T Park in one of his fiercest shows of domination yet. That is the most strikeouts he’s thrown in a game. Yeah, he’s got a Cy Young award so it’s not exactly a surprise. I’m not actually a fan of the Giants, but I respect guys with massive skills. And to think nobody wanted this video game playing nerd because he was too small and his technique too unorthodox sucks for all the other teams. Too bad for them, because it looks like he’s on his way to repeating for National League Cy Young again.

Normally I enjoy watching the Giants toil in mediocrity, mostly because they get so much respect and attention compared to the A’s, who have actually won a World Series or four. For whatever reason this kids success is nice to see, even in a Giants uniform. Great pitchers are rare and to have someone so unique and different succeeding at the highest level in the MLB. The Bay Area has not had a phenom in some time, really in any sport for the last 10 years. Baron Davis? Frank Gore? Those guys are great players, but not stand out superstars. So, even for this A’s fan, I’m glad to see some top-notch pitching in the Bay again, even if he destroys the A’s from time to time.
