The loss brings the Phillies record to 65-39. It was also one of few losses the Phillies have had at home where they hold a 38-18 record. The Phillies have had a great rotation and the win is big for San Francisco because it shows they can beat what many consider the best team in baseball.
In all, the Giants got 6 hits on the day including one homerun. The homer was by Pablo Sandoval and was his tenth of the season. Lincecum went 6 scoreless innings to get himself the win. His record now stands at 9-8 this season. He pitched great throughout and had good speed and command from the rubber. The bearded one, Brian Wilson came in to shut things down in the 9th to record his 33rd save of the year. The Phillies also got 6 hits but only managed the single run. Their pitcher Kyle Kendrick got credited with the loss, which moved his record to an even 5-5.
The Giants left Philadelphia and traveled one state over to Ohio in order to begin a series against the Reds on July 29th. Game one ended with the Giants being on the losing side of a 4-3 game however. The game went 13 long innings and was ended by help from a veteran Edgar Renteria for Cincinnati. The loss makes the Giants road record 29-27 on the year and snapped a Reds skid. The win for the reds brought their record to 51-55 on the season and put them one game above 500 at home where they are 28-27.
The Giants got 10 total hits on the day and battled from behind to tie things up in the 8th inning. The two teams then went scoreless though until Renteria got the winning hit across. Brian Wilson, and his beard, got credited with the loss. The loss brings Wilson’s win-loss record to 6-3 this season. He gave up the winning hit by Renteria, which led to an eruption of emotion from the dedicated pitcher.
Cincinnati got 4 their 4 runs on 12 total hits and after 8 plus innings of scoreless baseball, found enough in the 13th to get the victory at home. Reds’ pitcher Jose Arredondo got the win for the Reds improving his record to 2-3 this season. The loss is particularly tough for San Francisco as they continue to battle in a tight division. Pitching also always takes a hit in the late games and can mess with rotations.
The two teams will face one another again on the 30th. The game will feature San Fran’s Bumgarner facing the Reds Leake. Both have pitched ok this year and look to improve their team’s records. Bumgarner is 6-9 this season with a 3.56 ERA. The Reds Leake will look to improve on a 8-6 record and 4.04 ERA.
