After a hot start the Oakland A's are at .500 and tied for first in the AL West. Trevor Cahill made his 2010 debut and got served up by the Toronto Blue Jays Friday in Toronto for eight runs. Injuries have hit the squad hard with Catcher Kurt Suzuki on the 15-day DL for a strained ribcage. That marks the tenth time the A's have used the DL this season. Ailing pitcher Justin Duchsherer will see a doctor Monday for a hip strain suffered Thursday. Gio Gonzalez (2-1), the A's young starter will face the Jays saturday. The Jays will bring former A's pitcher Eveland, who has only faced one A's hitter.
Essentially, the A's are headed straight to the bottom of the division faster than the Titanic. The hot start was maybe a young eager team fired up for the season, with no ability to maintain that level of play. Perhaps the injuries are a sign of this over reaching by Athletics players. I don't know. One of the A's most solid players has been one of their historically most injured, Eric Chavez. The Toronto series is 2-0 for the Jays, with two left. The Angels are 12-12 and tied for first. They play a decent Detroit team today.
The A's need to stay healthy, keep playing solid ball and hope the Angels don't get hot. Lots of ballgames left.
