Randy Moss has landed a deal to play in San Francisco next season for the 49ers. After “fumbling” an opportunity for a Super Bowl birth this past season, the 49ers may have just what they need to get over the hump. Moss will certainly extend defenses and get a more vertical passing game to the team. I am sure the first thing San Francisco did when they brought Moss to town was clock him and see if he still had the jets. After that the only question that would remain for everyone is what Randy Moss you are getting. This is where common sense must come into play.
First off, Randy took a year off for what seemed to be a lack of wanting to play with the teams he was on rather than not wanting to play period. In this most recent instance, Moss got to check some teams out and decide whether or not he wanted to sign on. Therefore, you know that he is coming to a team he wants to play for. It will be a team for him that he knows is, maybe or maybe not, a fumble or two away from a Super Bowl birth. They are young and hungry and can energize the veteran.
Secondly, and most importantly, Moss still needs a ring. Yes, Moss was on some very good Patriot teams, but in his time there he never did win the big one. He knows that going to San Francisco provides a place where the reality and chance of getting a Super Bowl ring and hoisting the Lombardi Trophy is a good. As I mentioned, and every 49er fan would tell you, the team was a mere fumble or two away from the big dance.
