Thankfully this young mind could provide a silver lining to a story of hate that had no reason taking place. In a year that included many sad stories of fans fighting over sporting games and causing very severe injuries to each other (Many of which occuring in the San Francico area). We should learn something from this innocent young mind as well as his father. Adults are the role models and we can shape the world. We are the ones that show children how to act and shape how they grow and treat people in adulthood. If more people were like Owen’s dad and could remind him, and help him, feel for Kyle Williams then the word would be a better place. We must try to put ourselves in other peoples shoes. That is that true empathy is.

Kyle Williams should not be subject to any criticism for the team’s loss. In fact, he should actually be thanked for keeping the team in the game as long as he did. He should not be hated, and certainly not threatened, for his mistakes in the NFC Championship game. Hate is something that is actually usually absent from sports, and for good reason. There should be no hate in something so pure. As sad as some moments can be during sporting events, times of greatness can make a grown man cry. the sad Story of Kyle Williams has taken a turn for the better showing why sports are, in the end, just games and everybody makes mistakes.

Kyle Williams did fumble a punt deep in his team’s own territory that, MAY HAVE, ultimately cost his team the game. May have I say because football, nor any sport, is a game that is determined by one play. Like poker, often times a lot comes down to just plain luck. What should really be noted is the fact that Kyle Williams actually kept the team in the game. Late in the 4th quarter, Williams took a kickoff return down the field and into New York Giant territory. At the time, San Francisco was making zero progress offensively and without the long kick return they may have never been able to get in position to hit a game-tying field goal. Looking back at the NFC Championship

"Braylon Edwards was definitely missed from my point of view as Michael Crabtree was pretty much shutdown by Corey Webster. "

The Niners showed great team spirit by coming behind Kyle Williams who has been taken to task by many of the fans. It was great to hear that everyone in the locker room stated that it was a team game and it was not just one or two plays that decided the outcome of the game.

Speaking of which, I really felt that in overtime and even in the last few minutes of the game when San Francisco had the chance to win it, they should have put the ball in Frank Gore’s hands to get within field goal range. They have a great kicker in David Akers and I know he missed some important field goals last season with the Eagles, but he has been too good a player to let it happen again. 49ers advance to the NFC Championship!!

Alex Smith finally has shown us why he was chosen first overall in the NFL draft ahead of Aaron Rodgers. The San Francisco 49ers were not sure who to go with then, but they must be pleased heading into the NFC championship game at home in Candlestick Park. The Niners are heading to the NFC Championship again after going through so much as of late with 7 offensive coordinators in 7 years.

Vernon Davis and Alex Smith after being beaten down so many years came up with so many big plays against the Saints. The guy that Mike Singletary said he couldn’t win with – Vernon Davis – was really emotional after catching the touchdown pass from Smith that put the Niners in the NFC Championship. The 11-7 New York football Giants will travel to Candlestick Park on Sunday to face the 14-3 hometown 49ers. The Giants bring in an explosive offense who can move the ball through the air and on the ground while the 49ers provide a strong defense that gives up little. The matchup will be a matter of strength versus strength and should answer whether or not defense can still win championships. The 49ers will host the Giants at Candlestick Park this Sunday in the NFC championship game to see who will go on to the Super Bowl. In order to win the game San Francisco will have to be able to continue to do what they have done all season to get where they are now. The following will explain what those things are.

San Francisco must continue to run the ball effectively and stop the run to win. San Francisco has got all their success this year from running the football. It has opened up the pass game for Alex Smith and allowed him to be successful. They have also dominated on defense in the area of stopping the run, and only give up 77 yards a game on the ground. Teams struggle to get in the end zone against them on the ground and if that continues it will be a very big benefit to San Francisco.

Getting after Eli also must occur to win on Sunday. Stopping the run would make the Giants one dimensional and force Eli to throw while letting the defense know that he is passing. The defense prides itself in rushing the passer and has two Smiths that can provide pressure and get after the quarterback. Eli is known to get rattled when under pressure and has historically made mistakes during these times. The combination of stopping the run and getting pressure would be dismantling to the Giants offense.

Last Second Heroics

Saturday provided a memorable playoff game between the 49ers and Saints at Candlestick Park. In the game, the two teams scored a combined 34 points in one of the most exciting 4th quarters the game may have ever seen. Before that point, both combined for 34 points in the first 3 quarters of play. Both teams were explosive on offense and put up huge numbers. The Saints and San Fran put up nearly 900 yards of offense in the game as they traded touchdowns throughout the football game.

Leading the way for the Saints was Drew Brees who was 40 of 63 passing for 462 yards and 4 touchdowns. Of the Saints 80 plays, 63 of them were passes by Brees. Drew hit several receivers on the day and had 3 guys surpass 100 yards receiving on the day. Those guys were newly acquired Darren Sproles, rising talent Jimmy Graham and the veteran Colston. The Saints did most their damage through the air as the running game provided just 37 yards of the 472 total yards of offense New Orleans earned.

In the end it was a surge of 49er offense that ultimately sealed the win for the young team who is led by a first year head coach in Jim Harbaugh. A rejuvenated Alex Smith led the way passing for 299 yards and 3 touchdowns on 24 for 42 passes. The team rushed for a total of 143 yards on the day as well. No run was as big as Alex Smiths bootleg in the fourth that went for a record breaking long touchdown. Gore also added 89 yards rushing on the day. Smiths rush gave San Fran the lead late in the game, but New Orleans would answer. Smith then drove the 9ers down field again and with 10 seconds left on 3rd and 3 fired a ball to the endzone, which was caught by Vernon Davis for the win. In Saturday's playoff game pitting the San Francisco 49ers and the New Orleans Saints, many knew catches would be made by explosive offenses. However, few would have thought they would see a play that would take them back in time three decades almost to the day. The following will chronicle three catches made by three San Francisco 49er's receivers with 30 years separating the original "catch" from the catch that was just brought in by Vernon Davis this past Saturday, January 14th.

49ers will look to silence critics tomorrow

I am going to have my eyes glued to the TV tomorrow in what should be a classic game between the San Francisco 49ers and the New Orleans Saints. I guess being the Niner fan that I am I should be going to Candlestick Park to watch, but I am just happy to sit back and relax after a long week at work. Talking about going to the game, look at this article on the SF Weekly about a big hike in the price of season tickets for games next season.

The one thing that the Niners should be proud of as I pointed out in this post is that they have home-field advantage at least for this game and have kept the Saints out of that noisy Super dome. Offensively, San Francisco should look to maintain possession of the ball and try to keep Drew Brees out of the game as much as possible. Tailback Frank Gore should be key and Alex Smith has plenty of receiving weapons in addition to the handoffs. Still, I feel Braylon Edwards is going to be missed.
